Recently, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that millennial's preferring apps and services like Ola and Uber is what led to the automobile crisis in India. Her comment had sparked outrage across India. Social media users are now sharing a sarcastic hash tag #BoycottMillenials which are now doing the rounds on social media.
Sitharaman said that nowadays people are relying on Ola and Uber instead of buying their own cars or two-wheelers. Due to this, government is unable to get the monthly EMI's which has affected automobile sector deeply.
According to reports, India's automobile sector has been facing a huge setback since the last couple of years. Most of the renowned companies in India reported that their sales have come down drastically. In fact, sales or trucks have also come down with India's biggest Ashok Leyland going through its worst crisis of decrease of sales up to >70 percent.
Many people took to social media to post sarcastic comments. "Millennials have started eating Pizzas and Momos etc. All punjabi restaurants, chaat, pani puri walas industry going down - Nirmala #BoycottMillenials", tweeted TedEx speaker Pankaj Jain.
"When a hashtag like #BoycottMillenials is getting in trend I wonder what exactly are they looking out from us, we can't afford to get a car right now, we are rejected by autos, on the other hand, few us can actually afford to travel with #OlaUber so we're doing that", tweeted Prachi Jain.
"The tweets under the hashtag Boycott Millennials and Say it Like Nirmala Tai are so damn funny!! Instantly brightens up your mood on a bad day!", tweeted Samsays.
