“Should I kill myself to wake up this system and government?” These are the sad words of a father whose son with autism has been missing for over a month now. 17 year old Tarun Gupta from Mumbai went missing on 1 October, his father Vinod Gupta has started an online petition to urge the government to launch a high-priority search for Tarun.

Through the petition, Vinod Gupta is asking Prime Minister Modi, Ministry of Women & Child Development and the Maharashtra Police Department to take up the matter on urgent basis. Tarun Gupta has autism, speech and vision impairments and is not able to communicate verbally.

A CCTV footage was obtained from Panvel railway station a day after Tarun went missing and it shows Tarun crying and asking for water from a railway police officer. However, the officer felt irritated and hurriedly forced him to a Konkan-bound train. The insensitive behavior of the officer has sparked outrage amongst parents and disability rights groups across India as the incident has raised safety and security concerns of people with disabilities.

Tarun was later spotted at Chiplun in Ratnagiri and there has been no news about him since then.

“I went to a police station and lodged an FIR reporting him missing on that very day. Local police and common people have been helping me with CCTV footage but we have still not found Tarun. CCTV footage showed him crying, begging people for food and water,” are the heart breaking words of Tarun father.

Tarun’s family has been searching for him constantly and they are also getting help and support from people. However, the child is still missing and there is no information about his present whereabouts.

Please sign my petition asking the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Women & Child Development & the Maharashtra Police Department to launch a high-priority search for Tarun. Vinod Gupta, father.

Many social right activists and organizations are sharing the details about Tarun’s missing on social media in hope of locating the child.

Through the petition, Vinod Gupta is hoping to get the attention of the government and the authorities so that the system can help find Tarun who has been missing for over 50 days now.
