Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was put under house arrest. YSR Congress party, under the leadership of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was behind the house arrest. Reportedly, this was to prevent Naidu and other leaders of his Telegu Desam Party (TDP) from holding a rally against the YSR Congress and its leader Reddy.

Naidu said that this was a dark day for democracy, and nothing will stop him or his party from protesting against government atrocities. Large gatherings are still now banned at Palnadu region. Naidu's car was blocked by police soon after he tried to exit his house to take part in the protests. Naidu said that he was protesting against the current government for killing hundreds of TDP workers.
Other leaders who were under house arrest included Naidu's son Nara Lokesh, Kesineni Nani, Devineni Avinash and Bhooma Akhilapriya.
