Dhoni, Rohit better captains than Virat: Gambhir

Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir has made negative comments about India cricket captain Virat Kohli, saying that the only reason why he is able to lead the team efficiently is because he has players like Rohit Sharma and M S Dhoni on the team. Gambhir also said that the efficiency of a person's captaincy becomes evident only on the basis of performance in the Indian Premier League.
Still a long way to go for him. Kohli was very good in the last World Cup but he has a long way to go. He captains so well in international cricket because he has got Rohit Sharma, he had MS Dhoni for a long time. Captaincy credentials are noticed when you are leading a franchise, when you do not have other players supporting you. -Gautam Gambhir, BJP leader
Gambhir also said that a comparison between what Sharma has achieved for the Mumbai Indians team and Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings, with Virat's performance leading Royal Challengers Bangalore, his point is evident. "The results are there for everyone to see".
Gambhir said that Sharma should open the batting in test cricket. "I think K L Rahul has been given a longer run. It is time for Rohit Sharma to open the batting in Test cricket. If you pick him in the squad, he has to be a part of the playing XI. If he does not fit your playing XI, no point in picking him in the squad of 15 or 16. He is too good a player to be sitting on the bench".
Meanwhile Virat clearly has a fan in former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi who was bowled over by his batting against South Africa in the 2nd T20I at Mohali this week. Virat scored a breathtaking 72-run innings led India to a clear 7-wicket victory. Afridi termed the Indian captain 'a great' and wished him success for future.
"Congratulations Kohli! You are a great player indeed, wish you continued success, keep entertaining cricket fans all around the world," tweeted Afridi after the match.
