The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-BMGF will be honoring Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the 'Global Goalkeeper Award' for the Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan.
The prestigious award will be given at a ceremony on 24 September when PM Modi will be on a visit to the USA. He is travelling to the US to attend the high-level UNGA session that will be held at the world body's headquarters.
The 'Global Goalkeeper Award' is given to a political leader who has "demonstrated their commitment to the Global Goals through impactful work in their country and/or globally".
"Another award, another moment of pride for every Indian, as PM Modi's diligent and innovative initiatives bring laurels from across the world. Sh @narendramodi to receive award from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for #SwachhBharatAbhiyaan during his visit to the United States," tweeted Dr Jitendra Singh. Minister Of State
The Swachh Bharat initiative also known as the 'Clean India Campaign' was launched by PM Modi on 2 October 2014. The campaign aims to promote cleanliness across the country and provide sanitation facilities to all. The campaign is expected to be completed by 2 October 2019 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The announcement of the 'Global Goalkeeper Award' for PM Modi has not gone down well with Swadeshi Jagran Manch-SJM, economic-wing of the RSS- Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
SJM co-convener Ashwani Mahajan took to social media and expressed his thoughts against the BMGF.
He tweeted, "@narendramodi to reconsider this award, given shady past of BMGF. BMGF is no philanthropist, they are doing business in the guise of philanthropy. They are also under severe allegations of conducting illegal and unethical medical trials to foster their business."
