India to ban single use plastic products

Plastic is one of the biggest threats to the environment today. Excessive usage of plastic has destroyed land and oceans alike. Environmentalists and experts point out why it has reached a point to control the usage of plastics. Many countries are on their way to completely banning usage of plastic. According to reports, India is also gearing up to ban single usage plastic products which includes straws, plastic cups, bags, plates, small bottles and sachets. If implemented rightly, this will be a remarkable step towards protecting the environment from a country which is ranked as one of the most polluted in the world. The ban will come to effect from 2 October, birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been constantly pushing for environmental protection, is gearing up to start the campaign to ban plastics. Reportedly, those who violate the law will be imposed a heavy fine.
This new plastic ban in India will hopefully make a change to the world environmental crisis since India is one of the biggest consumers of plastic. There were mixed responses on social media.
