India defeated South Africa in the first Test of the three-match series in Visakhapatnam by 203 runs yesterday.

It was the first-ever World Test Championship (WTC) match to be played in India who is at number one position at the WTC table with 160 points.

The victory is the tenth consecutive win for India at home since March 2017.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and fast bowler Mohammad Shami had a huge contribution in the win as they took eight and five wickets respectively.

Rohit Sharma played a splendid game and scored 176 and 127 runs in the two innings that helped India score 502/7 and 323/4. The visiting team tried hard to reach the target but failed and could only make 431 runs.

Social media was all praise for bowler Mohammad Shami.

Harsha Bhogle, tweeted,” the resistance was resolute but the peak was too high to scale for South Africa. Second innings Shami was magnificent again.1-0”

“Superb bowling by @MdShami11. Where spinners were expected to dominate on the last day, he’s bagged 5 wickets. Some other sterling Indian performances too, Agarwal scoring double ton, spin twins Ashwin and Jadeja brilliant in tandem. But MoM surely @ImRo45 for his 2 tons,” tweeted Cricketwallah.
