J&K gets its first Lieutenant-Governor

Girish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as the first Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir , while J & K Governor Satya Pal Malik has been transferred to Goa .
Girish Chandra Murmu is an IAS officer and had served as the principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat .
“I convey my best wishes to Shri Girish Chandra Murmu on being appointed as the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. His experience as a senior bureaucrat would certainly stand him in good stead in his endeavours to fast track the development of the state. #JammuAndKashmir”, tweeted Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
Former Defence Secretary Radha Krishna Mathur has been named as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. As per a government statement, appointments will take effect from the day Murmu and Mathur take charge of their respective offices.
“Congratulations to Shri Radha Krishna Mathur and Shri Girish Chandra Murmu on their appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh & Jammu-Kashmir respectively. They both have made stellar contributions to nation building in their role as civil administrators,” tweeted Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Debendra Pradhan.
After the revocation of Article 370, the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been spilt into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, which will come into existence on October 31. Till now Governor Satya Pal Malik had been in-charge of the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
