JMM alliance wins majority in Jharkhand

The results of the recently held assembly elections in Jharkhand were announced yesterday. The Congress-JMM-RJD alliance won 47 seats while 41 are needed to form the government.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren won the Jharkhand Assembly elections from both the seats he contested in Dumka and Barhait. JMM emerged as the single biggest party in Jharkhand.
PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate JMM leader Hemant Soren and the alliance. He tweeted, “Best wishes to them in serving the state…I thank the people of Jharkhand for having given BJP the opportunity to serve the state for many years”.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das submitted his resignation to Governor Draupadi Murmu after BJP failed to get majority and won only 25 seats.
Congress leader P Chidambaram tweeted, “Dented in Haryana, Denied in Maharashtra, Defeated in Jharkhand. That is the story of the BJP in 2019.”
The loss is a huge setback for BJP and Raghubar Das, who had never lost any state assembly elections in the past 24 years until now.
BJP President Amit Shah tweeted, “We respect the mandate given by the people of Jharkhand.”
