PM Modi receives international award

September 26, 2019

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently at the United States of America (USA) to attend the Howdy Modi event. On Wednesday, Modi received the Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards for his Swachh Bharat campaign. Modi was presented the award by Microsoft founder Bill Gates at New York City.

When India lives #Gandhi, the world looks at us with respect and love. India honored for #SwachhBharat #VibrantDemocracy. Feel blessed to live in these times. Global glory of #Bharat. Thanks and thanks a billion @narendramodi ji-Tarun Vijay, BJP Leader.

The 'Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards' was started by Bill Gates and Melinda Gates Foundation. It was mainly focused on awarding world leaders who have been working towards ending poverty and fighting inequality.

Modi's 'Swachh Bharat campaign' was launched in the year 2014 during Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary. The campaign focussed on cleaning all the public places and even homes for a healthier and cleaner India. Though Modi received a lot of praise for the campaign, there was widespread criticism that it has not been successfully implemented across India. Modi's campaign received praise from international World Health Organisation that pointed out that over three lakh people have been saved from deadly diseases, thanks to 'Swachh Bharat'. "Well deserved @narendramodi", tweeted journalist Sakshi Joshi.
