New Covid variant in UK not out of control, says WHO

The World Health Organization stated that the new Coronavirus variant that was discovered in Britain is ‘not yet out of control’, but can be contained using existing measures. Reportedly, the mutant variant of the virus has a higher infection rate and can spread faster. This has been causing panic across the globe as UK announced an emergency lockdown as a measure to curb the virus.
WHO emergencies Chief Michael Ryan told in a press conference that the mutant virus cannot be left to its own devices, and correct measures have already been taken to control it. British Health Secretary Matt Hancock had stated that the new virus is out of control.
More than 30 countries including India has suspended travel to and from UK until end of the month. “Even if the virus has become a little bit more efficient in spreading, the virus can be stopped”, said Ryan.
Indian government had stated that the virus has not yet been found in the country.
