The Accessible India Campaign may have failed to meet its deadlines but 2019 gave India’s disabled community many reasons to cheer as well. On Newz Hook campaigns we put together the Top 5 Accessibility Initiatives of 2019 that give us reasons to hope.
Big Bazaar – Retail Company Big Bazaar launched some amazing initiatives this year for disabled people. Be it the Quiet Hour for people with autism and intellectual disabilities to Able Hands that aimed to bring disabled and non-disabled people together, Big Bazaar keeps raising the bar with its #SabkeLiye accessible shopping initiaitive.
Ezy Mov – Accessible travel in India’s bustling financial capital Mumbai got better thanks to Ezy Mov, India’s first wheelchair taxi company. Ezy Mov tied up with Indian Railways to provide pick and drop facility to disabled people at select Mumbai railway stations.
Kolkata Airport – Kolkata Airport has taken important steps to become disabled-friendly. This was soon after some allegations were made regarding disabled people facing harassment and discrimination at the hands of airport officials.
HDFC Bank – HDFC Bank took a big step towards inclusion. Customers can now open an account with a signature, thumb or a body impression. This will make banking easier for people with disabilities and will widen HDFC Bank’s customer base.
Chandigarh Railway Station – Chandigarh railway station became North India’s first blind friendly railway station thanks to the joint efforts of Bengaluru-based NGO Anuprayas and the Northern Railways
