Nithyananda fled country says Gujarat police
Self-styled god man Swami Nithyananda has reportedly fled the country after a fresh case was filed against him.
An FIR was registered against Nithyananda on the charges of alleged kidnapping of children. Nithyananda has been accused of exploiting the children for collecting donations which were used to run his ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Gujarat police has started investigation in the case and it claims that Nithyananda has left the country and is now abroad.
Ahmedabad (Rural) SP R V Asari said, “If required, we will go through proper channel to seek his custody from abroad. We will definitely arrest him if he comes back to India.”
While some reports claim that he is currently in Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry of External Affairs has denied any information pertaining to this.
“We have no formal information, neither from the Gujarat police nor the Home Ministry. Also, for any extradition request, we need the location and nationality details of the person. We don’t have such info about him yet,” said the spokesperson of MEA.
A petition has been filed against Nithyananda in Gujarat High Court by parents of the girls who claimed that their children were studying at Nithyananda’s educational institution in Bengaluru and are now missing
Sadhvi Pran Priyananda and Priyatattva Riddhi Kiran, two of Nithyananda’s disciples have also been arrested by the police in the case of kidnapping of four children and holding them hostage in a flat and using them as child labor.
After their rescue from the flat, the children have been placed with the Child Welfare Committee.
Nithyananda is also an accused in an alleged rape case filed against him in Karnataka.
