Outrage over Chennai techie’s death
September 15, 2019
Two days back, a 23 year Chennai girl was killed after an illegal banner of a political party fell on her followed by a tanker lorry hitting her. Subhasri Ravi, who worked for an IT company in the state capital was returning home after work. The illegal banner of the ruling party AIADMK was hanging on the road and it fell on Subhasri due to which she was knocked down. A tanker lorry ran over her head killing her on the spot even though she was wearing a helmet. The Madras High Court had already banned such illegal hoardings in the year 2017 after a similar accident killed a 30 year old techy. The furious court criticised political parties in the state and even said that they are tired of giving them warnings.
The pics of Subhasri Ravi's dead body lying on the road are just heartbreaking. Who will answer for the loss of life? Will the police file a case against AIADMK's former councillor S Jayagopal?-Dhanya Rajendran, Journalist.
The accident happened at the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, a busy area in Chennai. Reportedly, there were multiple hoardings of the party put in the area by a local leader C Jeyagopal for a wedding function which was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palanisamy.
After the incident, AIADMK leaders urged their party workers to stop putting up such illegal banners across the state.
"On Thursday, Ravi & Geetha sent their only child Subhasri off to work, hoping to see her back in the evening as usual. But, all they received was a phone call informing them about the fatal accident... #WhoKilledSubhasri", tweeted journalist Shiba Kurian.
