Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has been sent to judicial custody at Tihar jail till 19 September.
This came after the Supreme Court refused to grant P Chidambaram anticipatory bail in the INX Media case. The court's decision is a massive setback to the former minister and he will now go to jail.
Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation- CBI on 21 August in connection with INX Media corruption and money laundering cases.
Before being taken to the prison Chidambaram said, "I'm only worried about the economy."
Politician Subramanian Swamy tweeted, "PC along with other criminals in other cases will travel in police van all the way to Tihar"
Enforcement Directorate has accused Chidambaram of money-laundering and he is also being investigated in some other cases along with his son Karti Chidambaram.
The information against them was provided by INX Media co-founders Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea who are in jail at present in the murder case of Indrani's daughter Sheena Bora.
The two have accused Karti Chidambaram of taking $1million to secure Foreign Investment Promotion Board -FIPB approval in favour of INX Media with the help of his father P Chidambaram.
As per reports, the court has allowed Chidambaram to carry his medicines to jail. He will also be allowed to stay in a separate cell in Tihar and will remain there for 14 days.
