Prime Minister Imran Khan has revealed that Pakistan still has about 30,000-40,000 terrorists on its soil.
"There were 40 different militant groups operating within Pakistan," he said while confessing that previous Pakistani governments lied to the USA about these facts.
Earlier, Imran Khan had admitted that government had always known about the al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden living in Pakistan.
"We were fighting the US war on terror. Pakistan has nothing to do with 9/11. Al-Qaeda was in Afghanistan. There were no militant Taliban in Pakistan. But we joined the US war. Unfortunately, when things went wrong, where I blame my government, we did not tell the US exactly the truth on the ground," said Imran.
Imran Khan made this revelations while speaking at the United States Institute of Peace, he is currently on a 3 day tour to America. He said that previous governments did not have the will to work against the terror groups operating within Pakistan and he wishes to change that.
Reacting to the statements made by Prime Minister Imran Khan, opposition parties in Pakistan have said that he is not telling the truth.
A leader of Pakistan People's Party said "Imran Khan should be awarded Goebbels Award for the lies he told with confidence. Lying with confidence comes with practice and Imran Khan has been doing this for decades."
