A new project in Maharashtra has been launched that will provide meal at the low price of ₹10.
The promise to provide food at a subsidized rate was part of Shiv Sena’s manifesto before the assembly elections. The meal called ‘Shiv Thali’ will be served from a vehicle that will be called the ‘Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Anna-rath’.
The ‘Shiv Thali’ will consist of three chapatis, a vegetable dish, a portion of rice-dal/curry and a sweet. The menu will be changed every day.
The scheme has been started in Mumbai’s Mulund and will be run by Shree Swami Charitable Trust. It will be extended to other areas depending on the public’s response.
“This is a pilot project launched by my trust in view of the demands from the poor sections of society in Mulund. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar will inaugurate the ‘Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Anna-rath’, a vehicle from where the Rs 10 meal will be served to any needy person,” said Jagdish S. Shetty, the former Deputy Vibhag Pramukh of Shiv Sena.
The project has received mixed response from people who took to social media to share opinions.
SCM Consultant tweeted, “this fooling of people in the name of jhunka bhakar kendra, vada pav, thali is old style of shiv sena. thy cant think beyond this. marathi manoos needs industries in heartlands of maha not sasta thali or vada pav. many in heartland dont even eat vada pav, its misal or bhel.”
