Singapore first Asian nation to clear Pfizer vaccine

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday said that his country has approved the Pfizer-BioNtech’s Covid-19 vaccine making it Asia’s first country to approve the much awaited vaccine. Delivery of first shots is expected by end of December. Lee added that along with government officials, healthcare workers and elderly will be amongst those to first get the vaccine.
Singapore government is expecting free vaccines to be provided by 2021 to protect their over 5.7 million people from deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Lee said that the battle with Covid is far from won as the country enters the third phase. “Covid-19 has not been eradicated”, he said.
As the country is gearing up to ease down on restrictions, government is ensuring that people do not gather in large numbers at malls and other places of worship.
Singapore has reported nearly 59,000 cases with 29 Covid deaths till date.
