A day ahead of meeting with central government, farmer’s representatives held a talk with union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday evening at 7 pm. When Shah suggested a new proposal with key amendments in farm bills be presented before them for Wednesday’s meeting, farmer representatives denied it. Instead, they said they want all the three farm bills to be scrapped completely to which Shah did not agree.

Shah’s meeting with the 14 farmer representatives at the state-run Indian Council of Agriculture Research’s (ICAR) Pusa Complex did not yield any results. Due to this, the scheduled meeting today with agricultural minister Narendra Singh Tomar has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, farmers claimed that the nation-wide ‘Bharat Bandh’ that was organized on Tuesday was a grand success. Reportedly, 25 states were impacted. Farmers have now claimed that their protesting venue must be changed from Burari grounds to Ramlila Maidan in the national capital as they did not want to trouble people of Delhi and Haryana. Farmers will be holding a meeting today at the Singhu border.

Thousands of them from various parts of India have camped at Delhi demanding scrapping of all three farm bills introduced in parliament last September. They have been braving intense cold and weather conditions in the capital city to demand justice.
