Tennis player Leander Paes is one of the most loved sportsmen across the world. He has always ensured to get top rankings making India proud. On Christmas day, Paes announced his retirement from professional tennis. Breaking hearts of his thousands of fans across the world, Paes will be away from the world of tennis soon. The player took to his social media to announce his retirement plans.

Merry Christmas everyone! Here’s wishing all of you and your families a fabulous year ahead filled with health, happiness and excitement. This being said, I want to announce 2020 as my farewell year as a pro tennis player- Leander Paes.

He further went on to thank his family. He added, “I am looking forward to the 2020 tennis calendar where I will be playing a few select tournaments, traveling with my team and celebrating with all my friends and fans around the world. It is all of you who have inspired me to become me and I want to take this year to say “Thank you” to you. I would love to hear your favorite “Leander memories” over the years using #OneLastRoar tagging me and I will be sharing mine too throughout the course of the year”.

In the last one year, Paes’ ranking had come down drastically. He has been the most succesfull doubles player in the history of Grand Slam Doubles titles. For Paes’ fans, the news was definitely disheartening. Many of them took to social media to share about it as well. “Leander Paes to bring the curtains down on his nearly three decade illustrious career in 2020! Goes without saying that the Legend will be missed for his timeless enthusiasm and perseverance. Thank you @Leander for all those euphoric moments you gave us fans. #OneLastRoar”, tweeted Anjali Banerjee.
