Two-day curfew imposed in Kashmir

A two-day curfew, on 4 and 5 August has been imposed in Kashmir. This is in the wake of one year anniversary of the scrapping of Article 370 for which Narendra Modi led central government received a lot of criticism. Only essential services are allowed to ply in the union territory.
In an order, the Srinagar district magistrate stated that they got information about certain Pakistan sponsored groups and separatists planning to observe 5 August as ‘Black Day’. Security across Kashmir has also been beefed up. Police vehicles have been patrolling across the valley with officials asking people to stay indoors. Thousands of government troops are reportedly guarding the valley now.
Last year, when Article 370 was scrapped, a similar curfew was imposed. The center scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the constitution. The state was divided into two union territories. The valley was completely shut down from other parts of the world. Telephones and internet lines were cut off. There were reports that many locals who tried to protest were killed though government did not confirm the numbers. Prominent political leaders from the valley were detained and arrested.
