As United Kingdom (UK) started mass vaccination of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine, an allergy warning was issued on Thursday. Britain’s medicine regulator said that anyone with a history of anaphylaxis to a medicine or food should not get the vaccine. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction to venom, food or medication.

UK had started vaccinating elderly people and frontline healthcare workers beginning last Tuesday. According to the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), there has been two reports of anaphylaxis and one report of a possible allergic reaction since rollout of the vaccine began.

Margaret Keenan, a 90-year-old from UK was the first person to receive the vaccine which was eagerly awaited.

With the vaccine being only hope for Covid pandemic to be completely erased, countries are in the race for creating the vaccine. India has assured a vaccine by beginning of 2021 assuring that over 30 million people will be vaccinated at the same time. Canada is another country to have approved Covid vaccine of which the initial shots will be delivered and administered across the country soon.
