A month before, parliament had approved for an amendment to The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment or UAPA Act, 1967. On Wednesday, The Union Home Ministry of India named four more people under the new anti-terror law. This includes Maulana Masood Azhar, Dawood Ibrahim, Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman-Lakhvi. The United States of America commended India's latest move, showing their support in combating terrorism.
We stand w/ #India & commend it for utilizing new legal authorities to designate 4 notorious terrorists: Maulana Masood Azhar, Hafiz Saeed, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi & Dawood Ibrahim. This new law expands possibilities for joint #USIndia efforts to combat scourge of terrorism. AGW-Alice Wells, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
All the terrorists listed are Pakistani nationals who have been charged for murder of thousands of people not just in India, but from across the globe. The new law will give the central government power to designate a person as individual terrorists. Their entry to India will be banned and their properties can also be seized by the government.
"#BREAKING: India designates Pakistan based Globally designated terrorists Hafiz Saeed (LeT), Maulana Masood Azhar (JeM), Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi (LeT) and Dawood Ibrahim as individual terrorists under recently amended Unlawful Activities Prevesntion Act.
